Laurel Valley Heritage Foundation
As the largest surviving 19th and 20th century sugar plantation complex in the United States,
Laurel Valley provides visitors with a unique glimpse into what life was like for sugar workers over the past 170 years.
In order to ensure the Laurel Valley Plantation Village is around for future generations to experience and learn from, the Laurel Valley Heritage Foundation was formed in 2018 create a tourism program to generate a sustainable source of income to repair, renovate, maintain and improve the site.
The nonprofit foundation board is committed to interpreting the historical, cultural, and natural significance of the property, with the goals of stewardship, education, and community outreach.
Mission Statement:
LVHF is formed for the purpose of engaging in any lawful
activity for which corporations may be formed … and specifically for the
purpose of soliciting donations and raising funds to repair, renovate, maintain
and improve the historical site known as the Laurel Valley Plantation Village …
through fundraising activities and by generating community support, both
locally and nationally, through tours and other events. Its officers and
directors are charged with maintaining and preserving the buildings and
surrounding acreage of the Laurel Valley Plantation Village for public
exhibition and as a historical landmark dedicated to the history, architecture,
and housing for farm workers in pre and post-Civil War times… . The Corporation
is committed to interpreting the historical, cultural and natural significance
of the property and to upholding its core values of stewardship, education,
research and community outreach.
Without the generous grants and assistance of both The Louisiana Cajun Bayou Tourism and the Lorio Foundation the Laurel Valley Heritage Foundation would not be where it is today.
